It’s hard to imagine that, more than ten years later, people would still be playing and discussing Minecraft. While many may still think of it as a video game more suitable for children, its appeal transcends age groups, becoming one of the biggest success stories in the industry. Its popularity is down to the addictive quality of its gameplay, not to mention the near-infinite things that can be done. However, despite its enormity, there are some things which are surprising have yet to be added to the game officially.

Take a grappling hook, for instance. Given how huge the world is, having something that can allow players to cover large areas of land quickly would be a welcome implementation. YouTuber Mysticat has done such a thing. Using a series of console commands, they’ve added their own grappling hook into Minecraft, which functions exactly as people would expect. It works by having a rope become attached to an invisible bat, as ropes can only be bound to an animal, and then having a series of commands pull the player towards this location.

The result is pretty impressive, and the video shows that it was a much more complicated process than some may suspect. However, complex projects are something that Mysticat is known for. This YouTuber makes all sort of interesting things in the game, including a giant Minecraft version of Frogger, as well as designing a fully working tank. It shows a great amount of skill on the content creator’s part, but it also shows just how much can be done in Mojang’s open-world sandbox game as well. It seems as though there is still so much to discover.

On top of that, some people have been using artificial intelligence to generate some ideas for the game. Recently, SystemZee used AI to generate Minecraft ideas which they then actualized, such as a giant sea turtle, an Enderman that’s textured and acts like a Creeper, a man-eating plant, and a bow that fires lava instead of arrows. They even managed to make their own grappling hook as well, so it’s clearly something that players are keen to see in-game.

For this reason, and dozens more, Minecraft is still one of the best-selling games of 2022, despite releasing in 2011, with the alpha coming out in 2009. This puts it on par with the likes of Elden RingGran Turismo 7, and Horizon Forbidden West, all of which are much newer releases. It will be interesting to see what else Mysticat and other YouTubers come up with next.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
