Nintendo drops the second wave of Booster Course Pass DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, including the entirely new Sky-High Sundae course.

The announcement of an astonishing 48 new tracks coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shocked players who’ve received a trickle of DLC content since the game’s launch on Switch in 2017. Nintendo’s now rolling out the 48 courses as 6 individual DLCs, each featuring 2 new cups and 8 total tracks. The first wave of courses arrived in March and was well-received despite some confusion over the art style changes. Now Wave 2 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe‘s Booster Course Pass has arrived.

Wave 2 of the Booster Course Pass includes, as expected, 2 new Cups each with 4 new courses. First is the Turnip Cup, which includes Tour New York Minute from Mario Kart Tour, SNES Mario Circuit 3 from Super Mario Kart, Kalimari Desert from Mario Kart 64, and Waluigi Pinball for Mario Kart DS. Second, the Propeller Cup includes Tour Sydney Sprint from Mario Kart Tour, Snow Land from Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and Mushroom Gorge for Mario Kart Wii, and the last course is something special.

The final course of Wave 2’s Propellor Cup is a brand-new course named Sky-High Sundae. The course is dessert-themed and full of obstacles made out of ice cream, chocolate, and candy. Think Wreck It Ralph‘s Sugar Rush racing game and that’s the basic idea.

All of Wave 2’s courses for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have been updated to match the quality that players would escape for any given course in the game. These often include various gameplay additions, too. An interesting adjustment in Wave 2 is to a Wave 1 course, Coconut Mall, which has adjusted the Shy Guy-driven vehicles at the end of the course. The cars will now move forwards, backwards, and drive in circles, spinning out players that they crash into.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe players that have already purchased the Booster Course Pass can download and play the new tracks now. For those who have yet to purchase the pass, it can be acquired in multiple ways. First, as a premium purchase for $24.99, which includes all 48 DLC tracks as they’re released. They can also be played by subscribing to Nintendo’s Switch Online Expansion Pass service.

Today’s DLC release for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe marks just the second wave of 6 planned DLC drops for the Nintendo Switch racing game. The first wave released in March and now the second is arriving in August, so Mario Kart 8 Deluxe players can expect at least one more to arrive before the end of 2022. Nintendo has promised all 48 tracks will be delivered by the end of 2023.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch.
