Despite being created by the Arkham Origins developers, Gotham Knights appears to be taking significant departures from the traditional Batman Arkham formula. Firstly, Batman won’t even appear in Gotham Knights because, according to the team at WB Games Montreal, his death acts as the catalyst for the story in the upcoming action game. Beyond story changes, there are other things coming to Gotham Knights, such as new suits for the next generation of caped crusaders.

The Batman Arkham series did allow for the iconic crime fighter to wear a collection of different suits, with Arkham Knight granting Batman plenty of new costumes through its DLC and main game. However, with Gotham Knights’ developers firmly stating that there will be no microtransactions in the game, it appears the suits coming to the new title will all be earned through playing, rather than buying DLC. In a previous interview, Gotham Knights Executive Producer Fleur Marty stated that each of the game’s playable characters would receive 11 suit styles at launch. Now, some of those concepts have been revealed.

Debuted by IGN, fans can now see an early look at 28 of the 44 suit styles that will be available in Gotham Knights. There are some interesting and cool designs for any Batman fan among the new suit styles, including concepts inspired by classic comics and cartoons. There are a few that take clear inspiration from other Batman works. The Shinobi set, for example, seems to have been inspired by the animated film Batman Ninja.

While showing off these impressive suit concepts, the developers of Gotham Knights also spoke about how the customization options will work. There was a reiteration of a focus on no microtransactions, though it is important to note that the Beyond and Knightwatch sets are currently tied to the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions of Gotham Knights. Following that, Game Director Geoff Ellenor talked about how the suits will work in-game and stated that, while there will be some options to customize a suit set, the player cannot mix and match items. “We wanted to make sure that [the player] always looked cool,” Ellenor says. “You don’t want to end up with a Red Hood that looks sketchy because you made bad fashion choices.”

While it may be disappointing to some to find out that the suit styles in Gotham Knights can only be slightly adjusted, each style does come with customizable elements, letting the player change the cowl, logo, boots, and gauntlets. There’s also the colorway in Gotham Knights, which allows suit styles’ colors to be altered, even letting players change key things like making Red Hood’s helmet blue if they wish. Also, there are transmogs available in Gotham Knights, which are separate from the game’s suits and are purely cosmetic and don’t give stat changes, adding even more ways to change up the look of the game’s playable characters.

Gotham Knights releases October 25, 2022, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
